Phil played an eleven piece Premier Double Bass Drum kit with concert toms and Paiste cymbals.
It was all black - and he always dressed in black - how more black could he be? None more black....
An established exponent of double bass drums when most of the NWOBHM bands that started springing up around them had drummers who were single bass drum players. Most probably because when they started they couldn’t afford two ;-)
You can read more about my thoughts on his use of double bass drums here.
He also contributed to the lyrics and sang some backing vocals, including the start of Catcher in The Rye.
Phil complains of a poor memory and denies remembering much about what happened. He must have had a good time, then!
He retired from playing around 1986 but I’m pleased to report he has recently started practicing again - bizarre football incidents allowing!
He is now back in the saddle and has a black eleven piece Mapex kit which he says is an 80% replica of the original kit.
