Amazing bass playing,
Incredible bass sound,
Absolutely unbelievable dress sense!
When I saw Jameson Raid play John was sporting the military look with the epaulettes, officers hat and dark shades. In an email from Ian Fletcher who saw the band regularly in 1978 he tells me his early stage persona included a black monk’s habit with upside down crucifix and dark sunglasses (as you do...)
A founder member of Jameson Raid, he was with the band until 1980 and plays on both EPs and ‘Hard Lines’ from Metal For Muthas II, where I believe he may be the responsible for the keyboard work, too. He wrote or co-wrote many of the songs including ‘The Raid’ and ‘It’s a Crime’.
He played a Rickenbacker 4001 through a stereo rig with custom built bass bins.. He also played Eko bass pedals.
For me not only his bass playing but his incredible bass sound are a very big part of what made Jameson Raid stand out from most other Heavy Rock bands at the time.
