Terry Dark was a member of several Birmingham based bands, including Clayton Peacock and Hoi Palloi. He was recruited as the singer of Jameson Raid in December 1976, the last of the ‘Classic’ lineup to join.
Jameson Raid shared a bill with Hoi Palloi, who played various covers including a Raid song, and Ian and John asked Terry to join. He says “That was the best decision I ever made”.
A fine songwriter, he wrote many of the tracks including Catcher in The Rye and Seven Days of splendour and contributed the words to many of the others.
After Ian Smith and John Ace left in 1980 Terry and Phil continued as Jameson Raid with new members until 1982.
He later moved to the Netherlands and formed a band with local musicians called The Dark Sunbirds.
They released an excellent album, “Drift”, in 2000 on which Terry writes all of the lyrics and most of the songs.
It contains a sublime, slow version of ‘Seven Days Of Splendour’
He now plays ‘for fun’ with a Dutch band called ‘Kick the Fridge’.
